K for Katelin and Blessed Karl

Image
Dearest Reader, This newest letter, completed today, is unique in that it contains the Iron Cross and the insignia of the Austrian Empire. Why did I include this? To commemorate Bl. Karl of Austria. Karl of Austria, whose feast is October 21st, was the last Catholic monarch of Europe (and for that matter the world), and he chose to resign as Habsburg emperor rather than continue the brutal First World War. For this, along with his utmost devotion to Holy Mother Church and the Eucharist, we honor him as the "Emperor of Peace". Katelin, a good friend of mine, has chosen Holy Karl as her intercessor. She has a mysterious neuromuscular pathology: which is preventing her from functioning normally. She has had to quit two different jobs now because of this disease, and she will be unable to see a specialist until next year. Therefore, I am asking all who read this: to please pray to God, by the intercession of Emperor Karl, to heal Katelin of her bodily illness, and to lead her cl...

ILLUMINATED LETTERS (So Far) - THE WARRIOR'S PRAYERBOOK

Discovering Illumination

Image
Dearest Reader, After my last post, I went online looking for different artists/videos showing how to make more fancy floral embellishments for my pages. Happily, I stumbled upon this term, Illumination, which is the styling of books in the medieval, monastic aesthetic. That little keyword unlocked a whole new world of artistry for me! For, unlike liturgical typesetting, there are numerous resources online I can draw from to work on my drawing skills. One book I found in the public domain online recommended I simply copy other artist's work, and over time I can develop my taste to develop my unique designs. So that's what I'm doing now: practicing with fancy drop-cap letters based on designs from other artists! I: My Notebook Sketches on Thursday My first couple attempts on Thursday were a little too hurried and ambitious, so I quickly abandoned them (I). But my third try, which was a blocky yet smaller T, wasn't too bad considering all I had were my pens and notebook ...

Practice With Scanning and Embellishment

I: Original acrylic painting on sketch pad ✠   [NOTE: These are my open notes of my progress with both my artistic and typesetting skills. It'll be raw and (mostly) unedited. The point is to keep track of and (stay accountable to) my goals! Please leave a comment: I'd love some constructive criticism as I go!]   ✠ Dearest Reader, This evening, I did not have any plans whatsoever. I knew this would be a perfect time to dust off my old printer, see if it still works, and even begin some illuminated letter practice! The good news is that the printer does turn on! the bad news is that I will need to purchase some new cartridges before I can print those letter practice sheets. That said, I did make some use out of old Epson. Taking a few older paintings of mine, I sandwiched them into the scanner, shoved in my thumb drive, and let her rip with the highest resolution she could! I then reinserted the flash drive into my desktop and downloaded them as PDFs. After that, I used fr...

Welcome to Latinferni!

Dearest Reader, Welcome to Latinferni! This post will explain what this page is all about, and also a bit about me, the creator! The Mission: To glorify Christ the King: through meditations on His teachings, free devotional articles and pamphlets (which will be completely free to copy and use offline), and reflections on how we can serve Him above and below the current "veil of order" (which I will explain in further detail): all placed tastefully in a garden of liturgical artwork drawn by yours truly.  As far as content development, the goal (for now) will be to post at least one scripture article per week, a current events article once every couple weeks, and a new prayer pamphet/resource once a month. Why the name "Latinferni"? Latin In the Traditional Latin Mass, (alongside the other Roman Sacraments), Latin is the language of love that the priests, laymen, theologians and mystics have offered to God for nearly two millennium. If we want to find true holiness a...
